Objectives
The students learn the basic principles and techniques in order to translate a French text of general nature into proper and idiomatic Turkish.

Topics
Students translate French articles from newspapers and magazines on general topics into Turkish. The translations are discussed in class. Special attention is paid to specific stylistic and methodological difficulties in translation.

Prerequisites
Advanced knowledge of French and Turkish.

Final Objectives
The student can transfer a French text of general nature and a medium degree of difficulty into fluent and in idiomatic Turkish.

Teaching Methods
Practicals. The French texts are translated in groups or individually at home. The translations are discussed in class afterwards and the students give a motivated explanation for their translation.

Assessment
Continuous assessment (30%) and written exam (70%). Continuous assessment is on the basis of translations prepared at home. The students hand in their translations which are corrected and returned. The use of both explanatory and bilingual dictionaries during the written exam is allowed.

In the 2nd examination period the continuous assessment is replaced by additional exercises in the written exam.
