Objectives
The course aims to teach students the techniques and translation competence needed for interlingual subtitling, dubbing and audiodescription. A lot of attention is devoted to to the adaptations, both linguistically and culturally motivated, that scripts must undergo during the translation process.
Topics
During the first part of the course particular attention is given to translation competence, the use of translation strategies to reduce text, the reproduction of cultural references and ways to avoid interference. During the second part, students learn how to use the software.
Prerequisites
Fluent command of Spanish and English. Ability to apply the various translation strategies adequately. Ability to look up information efficiently, in primary and secondary sources.
Final Objectives
The student knows the standards and conventions of subtitling and can apply them efficiently outside the classroom.

The students can be provided with feedback during the seminars or during the teacher’s consultation hours.
Teaching Methods
Seminars in small groups or according to an individual project (comparative analysis of a subtitled and a dubbed version)
Assessment
Type of exam: written exam (using the necessary software) 50%; written practical assignment 50%
