Key words

This course takes place in the first semester of the third year. After this course students have to be capable to understand electrical, pneumatical and hydraulical control systems of the process industry and to develop simple control systems. Because electrical control systems are most common, these systems (especially PLC) get most attention in the course.

The content of the course is built up linearly.
- theory
        1. Electrical control
                · Use of switches as controlling elements. Symbols, conventions, schemes and applications.
                · Contactors, timers, counters: schemes and applications.
                · PLC-control: the PLC, programming, applications.
        2. Pneumatical control
                · Compressed air and compressors
                · Ventiles en cylinders, practical applications.
        3. Hydraulical control
- lab
Practical exercises related to theory, eventually a visit to the local industry.
- BZL (Begeleid zelfstandig leren)
        More profounding exercises and tasks.

Basic skills in applied electricity.

Final Objectives
General skills and general professional skills
        Analytical mind : advanced
The students can address complex problems. They determine first the headlines and detail more later on.
        Accuracy : advanced
The student continues until the results are satisfying.
        Independance : advanced
The student doesn't hide behind others and takes his responsibility.
Professional skills
He can control high technological production processes as operator.
He can enhance the production process.

Teaching Methods
- theory : explained by the lector in front of the class
- lab : practical exercises, perhaps a visit to the industry
- BZL : tasks

- theory 20%: oral exam, possibility to 2nd chance
- labo 20%: oral exam, possibility to 2nd chance
- labo 20%: permanent assesment, no 2nd chance
- BZL 40%: permanent assesment, no 2nd chance
The oral exam about theory and lab happens at the same timet.
