Objectives
This course takes place in the first semester of the third year. After this course students have to be capable to understand electrical, pneumatical and hydraulical control systems of the process industry and to develop simple control systems. Because electrical control systems are most common, these systems (especially PLC) get most attention in the course.

Topics
The content of the course is built up linearly.
- theory
        1. Electrical control
                · Use of switches as controlling elements. Symbols, conventions, schemes and applications.
                · Contactors, timers, counters: schemes and applications.
                · PLC-control: the PLC, programming, applications.
        2. Pneumatical control
                · Compressed air and compressors
                · Ventiles en cylinders, practical applications.
        3. Hydraulical control
- lab
        Practical exercises related to theory, eventually a visit to the local industry.
- BZL (Begeleid zelfstandig leren)
        More profounding exercises and tasks.


Prerequisites
Basic skills in applied electricity.

- theory 20%: oral exam, possibility to 2nd chance
- labo 20%: oral exam, possibility to 2nd chance
- labo 20%: permanent assesment, no 2nd chance
- BZL 40%: permanent assesment, no 2nd chance
The oral exam about theory and lab happens at the same timet.
