Objectives
Students master financial, insurance and stock exchange terminology and can use this knowledge adequately in both internal and external business communication.

Topics
Thematically organized course, in which the terminology of marine insurance and reinsurance, banking and stock exchange transactions is studied and practised.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of insurance and financial terminology; sufficient grammatical correctness for fluent communication.

The progression of the students is followed meticulously and tested orally at a regular basis.

Teaching Methods
  • Question-and-answer: the terminology is presented by means of texts, documents and cases
  • Integrated speaking skill exercises:
            - Functional conversations
            - Presentations about a job-related subject, the students can choose the subject and work either individually or in small groups
  • The students prepare subjects and can ask the lecturer for advice if necessary
  • Guided self-study


Assessment
  • First exam session: 70% oral exam and 30% continuous assessment
  • Second exam session: 100% oral exam
Students only enrolled for taking the exams:
  • First exam session: 70% oral exam and 30% individual assignment
  • Second exam session: 100% oral exam
