Objectives
Lecture:
The course inorganic industrial chemistry is focused on the most important chemical processes starting from the raw materials, along the production of semi-finished articles and ending with the final endproducts.
Attention is paid to insight and applicable knowledge about process-engineering, process-technology as well as to synthetic and chemical-analytical aspects of the industrial chemical processes taking into account crucial factors as quality, durability, recycling, environmental impact, safety, health and social-economical context.

Study excursion / practical exercises:
During the excursions, students are confronted with process-chemistry and related technology in real dimensions. Moreover students become an insight view in the enterprise organisation in his global socio – economic and society context.

Topics
Lecture:
Typical elements of the inorganic chemical industry and more specifically the situation in Belgium (Flanders), further topics as product development, business-column, R&D, patents, environmental sustainability , safety and health knowledge management and automation. In addition topics are treated as basic raw materials, air and water (and purification), industrial gasses, the sulphur industry, nitrogen industry, alkali- and chlorine industry and phosphorus industry.

Study excursion / practical exercises:
A broad spectrum of enterprises, active in the chemical industry ( basic products , fine chemicals, polymers,…) are visited in group.

Prerequisites
Objectives, obtained in the chemical basic modules of the first and the second year bachelor chemistry.
