Objectives
Introduction to GIS, practical training in the use of the ArcView software.

Topics
After a short introduction in the principles of GIS, major attention is given to the use of the GIS software ArcView. The software allows the digital storage of maps in a vector or raster format in a coordinate system (georeferencing). Files in a vector format (polygons, lines, points) can be linked to numerical data. ArcView also allows analysis and presentation of the data. The possibilities of the ArcView extensions 3D and Spatial Analyst will be illustrated. For the exercises, existing digital materials will be used. Also raw data will be digitized for analysis and presentation.

Prerequisites
Basic skills in compure science required

Final Objectives
Be able to use the sofware ArcView. The practical training in the use of ArcView, the most used GIS desktop software, enables the student to store, analyse and present digital information, both in vector and raster format.
