Objectives
To obtain insight in the formation of a fabric, in the mechanical aspects of the production process as well as in the internal structure of the fabric (study of weave structures).
Moreover, the production steps which the yam undergoes in preparation to the weaving process ara thoroughly treated.

Topics
Explanation of the different steps occurring in preparation to the weaving: winding, warping and sizing. Attention is always being given to the purpose of the operation, the different techniques that can be used, the structure and types of machines and the influences on the used base materials.
For the weaving process the different shed forming devices are discussed in detail, the sorts of weftinsertion, the components of a loom, the textile-technical aspects of weaving and some special weaving techniques.

The excercises consists of two parts:
  • practical weavingexperience at the loom
  • study of the weave structures and analysis of a woven fabric
