Objectives
The purpose of this course is to give the student basic knowledge of the origin, the properties and applications of various fibre types.
Laboratory tests include physical test and fibre identification according to present international standarts and scientific methods.

Topics
Textile materials are divised according to their origin, their properties or their chemical type. In the next chapter the composition and general properties of textile fibres are discussed, including different methods of producing man-made fibres. All natural fibres (of vegetable and animal origin) are the subject of the main first part of the textbook.
The issue discussed in the second part deals with specific properties of the man-made fibres in detail. The third part includes speciality fibres such as mineral fibres, metal fibres and other high performance fibres.
Laboratory : The students learn how to perform a textile laboratory test according to international methods.

Prerequisites
