Objectives
The course provides the necessary background in the factors which are essential to realize telecommunication in the industry. Emphasises is given on the transfer of production, measuring and controlling information in the automation process. Attention is also given to the influence of the transmissionprocess on the controlling behaviour.
The most recent communication technologies are discussed in case studies.

Topics
The transfer of analog and digital information in the industry is realized in function of economical and functional constraints. The signals on the highest level are transmitted through communicationnetworks. The construction of an industrial communication network is build on the knowledge of the classical modulationtechniques, signaltransmission technologies and systemtheories of hierarchical informationsystems. The stringent demands of real time processing and the specific content of the datapackets demands specific network-technologies.
The first chapter gives an introduction in analog , digital and pulse communications. The second chapter deals with the physical telecommunication lines and modemtechnology. The last chapter is devoted to the different industrial communication networks : the plantnetwork, the fieldnetwork, the actuator and sensornetwork.
