Objectives

PART I :
This course is a supplement to the courses 'Soil Mechanics' and
'Construction'.
The course 'On-Site Building Techniques' will familiarise the student with
actual on-site construction and with specialised foundation techniques with
respect to soil improvement, renovation of structures and other special
construction techniques.

PART II:
Learning the various on-site procedures. Making test pieces and lab samples.



Topics

PART I:
1) The effect of the foundations and the aim and fundamental techniques of
soil research
2) Technical aspects of building on footings, pile foundations and sink
wells
3) Methods to avoid permeability and to improve the supporting power of the
soil, in case of weak soil
4) Campshedding techniques and methods to execute excavations in incoherent
layers below the freatic surface
5) Driving, duct- and shaft drilling, directional drilling
6) Use of epoxy mortar for injections into wall cracks, repairs of concrete
constructions, stone and brickwork. Inspections and repairs of drainpipes
without exposing them
7) Strutting existing constructions and underpinning the existing
foundation.
8) Soil consolidation techniques
PART II:
Making wooden, concrete or mortar specimens for lab tests.
