Study of fibres

Objectives
Theory: every textile product is built out of fibres. The selected fibres have to meet the product requirements which are determined by the way the product will be used. Every type of fibre therefore has its own characteristics and 'cleaning prescriptions'.
The aim of the course is to give students insight into the various fibre types, their characteristics, applications and maintenance. This will allow students to choose the right composition of fibres for a specific purpose, and to design a product which meets users requirements.
This will also allow them to judge on the quality of a specific product, and to identify potential problems.
Practice: students will learn to identify various fibre types and to determine their characteristics by means of microscopic and chemical research procedures.

Topics
