Objectives
By means of a general introduction to the Belgian market system and an evaluation of risks, students acquire a basic knowledge of the insurance products. They learn to evaluate the risk of the manager on local and European level in order to be able to prepare the best possible insurance package.

  1. Introduction to the Belgian market: persons involved, insurance systems, distribution channels, basic principles of Insurance Law and several Acts.
  2. Analysis of risks: evaluation and acceptance of several risks.
  3. Neutralization and compensation of risk including co-insurance and re-insurance.
  4. Calculation of the premium.
  5. Technical engagement of the insurance company: reserves and intermediary activities.
  6. Introduction and frame of the principal insurances: Liability-insurances, Life-insurance, Workmen's Compensation Act, Guaranteed Income, Personal Accident Insurance, Transport Insurance, etc.
  7. European dimension: impact of enlargement of scale and mergering operations, changes in distribution, tariff-war, E.C.-directives for insurance matters.


Prerequisites
Students need to have a degree in higher education.
