Objectives
to further refine knowledge & skills acquired in the 1st & 2nd years

This implies the training of the following professional competencies in order to be able to :
  • write business texts (letters, reports) in accordance with content, structure, style & language requirements
  • to carry on an English conversation fluently & correctly
  • listen in an active way in order to respond correctly (meeting, negotiation)
  • efficiently research, screen, select, classify & structure online & off line information
These competencies are needed to be able to develop a logical & coherent reasoning & to reword a motivated point of view (oral/written) in the best possible professional English.

The direct link with the professional environment & a multidisciplinary approach are aimed at.

The attitudes aimed at are consequently communicative attitude, accuracy, team spirit, assertiveness, problem solving potential, stress resistance, the ability to respect deadlines, critical reflection & intellectual curiosity.

READING SKILL :
professional up-to-date texts : professional terminology, translation, summary, critical screening & analysis. Comprehension is being enhanced & dialogue stimulated

WRITING SKILL :
  1. business reporting & correspondence
  2. translation
  3. creative / persuasive writing : being able to reword a point of view in a motivated way
COMMUNICATION :
  1. presentations & group dialogues (topics cfr. item reading skill)
  2. simulation exercises : negotiation/meetings
  3. job application
  4. translationpermanent attention is being paid to correct pronunciation & training of presentation techniques
ACTIVE LISTENING :
is being exercised in various situations (presentations, simulation exercises, dialogues etc.)

Assignments (see Planning Scheme) : all students do presentations and get various assignments (see items writing skill & communication) requiring preliminary work : screening professional publications, studying professional vocabulary etc..

Knowledge & skills acquired in the 1st & 2nd years. Individual questions & problems can always be communicated with the teaching staff.
