Objectives
This course falls in to three modules: road, rail and air transport. The objective of the course is to introduce the student to specific terminology and meanwhile to get acquainted with the legislation, the used documents, the needed licences and all types of trucks, wagons,…
Students are expected to be able to carry out assignments properly and to compare the different transport modes in all their aspects so as to choose the best option in function of the load to be carried.

Topics
The first module is about road transport. Besides completion of the CMR consignment note the students learn the elements of the transport of dangerous goods. After the discussion of the conditions for access to the road haulage trade and the licences required they are able to determine what licences are needed for each type of transport and for each haul.

In the second module the students get to know the transport of goods by rail (B-cargo). After a brief history of the NMBS, B-cargo's services are discussed as well as its major partners. The student should be able to choose the best means of transport for the load to be carried. By means of exercise students are taught how to fill in the CIM consignment note. The basic principles concerning transport of dangerous goods are also presented.

The third module is devoted to air transport. First an organisational framework is outlined and subsequently the goods, their properties and fitness for air transport are discussed. Besides rate policy, completion of the air waybill, the intermediaries and liability are also considered.
