Objectives
The theoretical course wants to expand the knowledge of the inorganic chemistry and an introduction of the organic chemistry. Consequently the student can situate and solve independently certain problems in the textile chemistry.
The exercices want to familiarise the student with a number of recurring operations in the lab such as weighing, filtering, pipetting, ... On the other hand the student learns to observe and to reflect. The student must, after a thorough preparation of the exercise, carry out the exercise independently and report the observations and results in a report. On top of this the student is confronted with some elementary texile-chemical analyses.

Topics
THEORY :
Inorganic chemistry : chemical balance, acid-base balances, buffer solutions, pH calculations, redox-balances, solubility, electro chemistry, descriptive textile-chemistry.
Organic chemistry : Nomenclature, characteristics of organic compounds and some synthetic reactions.
EXERCICES : practical exercices on general labtechniques and volumetry. Theoretical chemical calculations.

- Scoring system :
Theoretical course : written examination
The exercises are evaluated on a permanent base : - written tests (1/3)
- reports (1/3) - general way of working in the lab (1/3) The score is divided into 60% for the theoretical course and 40% for the exercises. re-examination is possible for the theoretical course as well as for the exercises.
