Objectives
In this course, the communicative skills are trained in a way that is relevant for the students. In other words, the 4 basic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) are discussed from the perspective of modern business communication. Special attention is paid to a right, objective and scientific style in Dutch (orally and written).
Reporting and interpretation is also discussed because students should be able to report and interprete data in a scientific way (dissertation, future professional life).
The first part of the course is dealt with in the 2nd year, the second part in the 3rd year.

Prerequisites
Active knowledge of Dutch Knowledge of spelling and grammatical terminology

Topics
The course starts off with the analysis and interpretation of various text genres and text structures. Thereafter, the information is applied to exercises and examples.
  • Recapitulation of the spelling and grammar of Dutch, exercises on sentence structures and language use
  • Definition concerning business communication and the communication model (with examples)
  • Writing strategies: content, form & style
  • Speaking strategies: telephone conversations and presentation techniques
  • Summarizing
  • Reporting
  • ICT Communication


Teaching Methods
A theoretical reference is offered and integrated in exercises, discussions, pair work, individual work...

Materials used
Syllabus with theory and examples / exercises, written by the lector
Students have to complete the syllabus by take notes during the lessons

Study guidance
Any student can contact the teacher if problems occur. The teacher can give supplementary exercises... on personal request.

Assessment
Maximum points: 60 (3 studypoints)
Written exam: 75 % (2nd examination period is possible)
Permanent assessment: 25 %
