Objectives

The purpose of this course is to give insight in the principles and the
materials used in the distributition of electrical energy to the industrial
consumer in middle tension networks (<36kV). The students have to study the
organisation of a middle tension network and how we treat failures in a
middle tension network. The choice of materials and principles of protection
against those failures.
It is necessary to follow this course together with the course "High tension
technology".

Prerequisites

The knowledge of the basic course "Electricity" from the first year and the
courses "Electrical machines I and II".

Topics

Survey of the middle tension area
Problems of protection and the nature of the failures
Protection against overcurrents
Voltage regulators for transformers
Telecircuits
Registration of failures and signalisation equipment
Structure of a middle tension case
Normalisation and legislation about middle tension cases
