Objectives
The objective of the course is twofold.
Students are expected to zcquire a basic knowledge and understanding of the fundamental legal principles governing the European Common Market. In addition, they are expected to gain insights into the dynamics of the processes establishing this Common Market.

Teaching Methods
Weekly sessions of two hours

Materials used
An in house text (M. Kruithof, Cases and materials on the Common Market, 270p- presents numerous excerpts from decisions of the European Court of Justice, European legislation, as well as scholarly articles on different aspects of the Common Market. Sections of the materials are assigned for study prior to class sessions where they will be discussed, with the teacher mainly asking questions and trying to guide students to the relevant insights. Active class participation by the students is required.

Study guidance


Assessment
A written open book exam will test the students' ability to apply their knowledge and insights to other, new materials. As active class participation is graded as well, only students having attended classes throughout the semester will receive a grade.
